Meta Ad Auditor - Home Builder Edition — Last updated: February 19, 2026
Summary: Meta Ad Auditor runs entirely in your browser. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your data on external servers. Your campaign data and API keys never leave your device.
1. What This Extension Does
Meta Ad Auditor is a Chrome extension that reads data from the Meta Ads Manager interface in your browser, analyzes campaign performance against industry benchmarks, and provides optimization recommendations. It also offers AI-powered ad copy generation using third-party AI providers that you optionally configure.
2. Data We Collect
We do not collect any personal data. Specifically:
- No analytics or tracking: The extension does not include any analytics scripts, telemetry, or usage tracking of any kind.
- No server communication: The extension does not communicate with any server operated by us. There is no backend, no database, and no data pipeline.
- No account information: We do not access, store, or transmit your Meta account credentials, name, email, or any identifying information.
3. Data Processed Locally
The following data is processed entirely within your browser and is never transmitted to us:
- Campaign metrics: The extension reads performance data (spend, impressions, clicks, CTR, CPC, conversions, etc.) that is already visible to you in the Meta Ads Manager interface. This data is used locally to generate audit scores and recommendations.
- Ad copy text: If you are viewing ads in Meta Ads Manager, the extension reads headline, primary text, and description content to provide copy analysis.
- Targeting information: The extension reads audience targeting details (locations, age, interests) from the Ads Manager interface for targeting recommendations.
- Audit results: Your most recent audit results are saved in Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local) so they persist between sessions. This data stays on your device.
4. AI Provider Integration (Optional)
The extension optionally integrates with third-party AI services for ad copy generation. This feature requires you to provide your own API key. The supported providers are:
- Anthropic (Claude)
- OpenAI (GPT)
- Google (Gemini)
- xAI (Grok)
- Perplexity
When you use the AI generation feature:
- Your API key is stored locally in Chrome's storage on your device. It is never sent to us.
- The extension sends your ad copy prompts (product description, audience, tone preferences) directly from your browser to the AI provider you selected. We are not an intermediary in this communication.
- The AI provider's own privacy policy and terms of service govern how they handle data sent to their API. We encourage you to review their policies.
- No campaign performance data or Meta account information is sent to AI providers. Only the creative brief inputs you type into the generation form are transmitted.
Your API keys are yours. They are stored in Chrome's local storage on your computer. We have no access to them and no ability to retrieve them. If you uninstall the extension, your stored keys are automatically deleted by Chrome.
5. Permissions Explained
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- sidePanel: Required to display the audit interface as a side panel alongside Meta Ads Manager.
- activeTab: Required to read campaign data from the Meta Ads Manager tab when you click "Scan."
- scripting: Required to inject the content script that reads table data from the Ads Manager page.
- storage: Required to save your audit results, selected industry, and AI provider settings locally on your device.
The extension only runs on Meta Ads Manager pages (facebook.com/adsmanager, business.facebook.com/adsmanager, adsmanager.facebook.com). It does not access any other websites or browser data.
6. Host Permissions Explained
The extension requests host permissions for the following domains:
- facebook.com, business.facebook.com, adsmanager.facebook.com: Required to read campaign data from Meta Ads Manager.
- api.anthropic.com, api.openai.com, generativelanguage.googleapis.com, api.x.ai, api.perplexity.ai: Required only if you choose to use AI copy generation. These permissions allow the extension to send your prompts to the AI provider you configure. No data is sent to these services unless you explicitly click "Generate."
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell, share, transfer, or disclose any user data to any third party. The only external communication the extension makes is to the AI provider API you optionally configure, and only when you explicitly request AI copy generation.
8. Data Retention
All data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. You can clear this data at any time by:
- Uninstalling the extension (all data is automatically deleted).
- Clearing your browser data for the extension through Chrome settings.
We retain no data on any server because we operate no servers.
9. Children's Privacy
This extension is designed for business professionals managing advertising campaigns. It is not intended for use by children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Changes to This Policy
If we update this privacy policy, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes will be noted in the Chrome Web Store listing.
